Amazing but true stories of the homeless
This morning at Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, while standing outside around 7:40AM waiting for the free bus, Old Doc observed a homeless trio get off of an arriving SKIP. As it was after 7:30AM, they could not get into BSH for morning services (which end at 8AM, anyway).

Update — See for yourself
In re the registered sex offenders at Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, most of whom are felony child molesters: I’ve been assured by Gina Barajas, Volunteer Manager at BSH, that the orientation given to all volunteers there includes some discussion of “resident profile”, and that any children who accompany adult volunteers must be at least [...]
Regional Ten Year Plan to Address Homelessness
The following link was sent to me in an e-mail from Carmen Atilano with the Boulder Human Relations Commission, and I present it here for what it’s worth:

A draft of this plan will be presented in March, 2010 — for what it’s worth.
See for yourself –
I hadn’t wanted to look it up myself, thinking that ignorance is bliss, but something told me that it’s much worse than I feared at Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, 4869 N. Broadway:

Usually, nothing very interesting happens, if you just ignore the stray drunks who wander [...]
Little things for which I’m grateful
It’s always a good time to remind oneself of whatever it is that brings pleasure, or meaning, or anything else of value to one’s life — no matter how humble:
I’m grateful for a place that is mine alone any night that I desire to go there; for enough food, sometimes very good food, to keep well-nourished; [...]

Today’s lesson, courtesy of Mr. Mark Twain
The following excerpt is from Chapter V of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, as narrated by Huck hisself:
“When [Pap Finn got out of jail] the new judge said he was a-going to make a man of him. So he took him to his own house, and dressed him up clean and nice, and had him to [...]
Public intoxication should be illegal
I was surprised to learn, a couple of years ago, that public intoxication per se isn’t a municipal offense here in Boulder, CO. No wonder that there is such an abundance of drunk idjits (both homeless people and others) staggering around in our public areas.
Please, don’t pretend that it’s your constitutional “right” to be under the [...]
