This is an update on one of the registered sex offenders here in Boulder. Prior to this, I hadn’t called anyone out by name because of my own concerns about vigilantism, which I firmly oppose.

However, some conduct is so egregious that it demands a heightened public awareness; for that, a name is necessary. As a matter of fact, the names of two offenders in this case.

Russell Avery, see yourself here? Convicted of Sex Assault on a Child:

What were you doing in front of Boulder Public Library at 1001 Arapahoe this morning before it opened? Wearing a cute little stuffed animal, perched on top of your left shoulder? Hoping to attract the attention of a CU coed of legal age? My guess would be otherwise . . . And in the company of your good friend, registered sex offender Charles Wadsager, also convicted of Sex Assault on a Child . . . I saw you both with my own eyes.

Does your parole officer know what you’re up to, Russell?

BTW, people, these two are the same guys I mentioned in an earlier blog entry “Update — See for yourself” (although not by name at that time). To me, this shows a pattern of behavior which is alarming.

Addendum Thursday, February 4th 2010: Most of these sex offenders have been sent here to Boulder because the Salvation Army Crossroads Shelter in Denver no longer offers emergency sheltering. Instead, it’s my understanding that Salvation Army wants to concentrate their efforts on transitional living programs for Denver’s homeless men. At the Salvation Army Harbor House in Springfield, MO — where I stayed and worked in their program during 2004 — sex offenders were not accepted.

Why parole authorities think it’s necessary to ship ‘em to Boulder is a mystery to me. Possibly, it’s only because they foolishly believe we will welcome Denver’s sex offenders along with their alcoholics, drug addicts, and petty criminals.
