For homeless Denverites

Samaritan House in particular is worthy of note for their transitional living program, which is more comprehensive (classes and other resources) than what is offered here at Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, and also of shorter duration. They expect positive results from their clients in terms of gaining a full-time job and saving money to get into an apartment ASAP.

The best model for transitional living programs I’ve seen, so far, and homeless Denverites are fortunate to have it. BTW, it is entirely secular — no religious component required.

  1. Yes, this begs the question: What sort of homeless people are leaving Denver to come to Boulder?

I submit that it's the sort who aren't interested in getting back into the mainstream, and who wouldn't last a week at a program like those at either Samaritan House in Denver or Boulder Shelter for the Homeless here.

Interesting that you would choose this place – I might be living at Samaritan House within a few days. Although, it may be out of reach for some in that they charge $? It's a program to teach broke, homeless people how to get jobs and places to live, but it costs money?

I suspect that most of the people there are "scholarship" like me, but I really don't know much about it.

    • Well, Boulder Shelter charges $25 per week for those in their 9-month transitional living program. Service hours are an alternative to that payment.

I'm not sure that Samaritan House does the same, but I believe that's only a 120-day program; during this period, a client is expected to find a job and save money towards renting an apartment, along with attending various classes and using resources on site as needed. It's much more intensive at Samaritan House, and personal responsibility is absolutely necessary there.
