Or maybe a case of drug-induced psychosis?
This morning, in front of the Main Library, a former resident of the transitional living program at Boulder Shelter for the Homeless told me that he and I would be going to Heaven at 9:45PM tonight. I just smiled at him and made no reply.
“Lonnie”, which isn’t his real [...]

Smoking at the Main Library
See — http://www.dailycamera.com/news/ci_14681283#axzz0iMGfUrU0
I’m outside the Main Library before it opens almost every weekday morning. The 15 foot rule is inadequate to keep tobacco smoke from irritating the lungs of anyone standing by the doorway. This is especially true of the 80% of homeless people who are heavy smokers (my estimate) and who have zero consideration [...]
A revelation from a homeless prophet
Homeless Hall of Shame #2
As a group, I’m inducting all of the homeless men who abuse their homeless wives/girlfriends and cause much suffering on a daily basis. Not all of this abuse is physical; a great deal of it comes from treating their women as subservient creatures to be degraded verbally, and otherwise shown their inferiority.
I see one case [...]

Doc Brinkley’s believe it or not #9
Amazing but true tales of the homeless from your friendly charlatan:
http://www.kshs.org/people/graphics/brinkley_john.jpg
A roster of the ridiculous was observed by Old Doc at Boulder Shelter for the Homeless last night. To wit:
Trench Foot Boy appeared to be staggering drunk, running around in his bare, rotten feet and stinking up the place; but give him credit for responding [...]
Advice for homeless campers
Based on my successful experience as a homeless camper here in Boulder, city and county, I would urge others to keep these points in mind:
1) Use all of the resources available for obtaining necessary camping gear and knowledge — see Boulder County Cares, Colorado FriendShip, Homeless Gear, and Wilderness Survival Skills under Blogroll to the right of these [...]
Will Rogers, philosopher
“Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.”

This quote certainly describes my credentials. Some just don’t get it, but the fact is that if I hadn’t done what I did to get sent where I was, I wouldn’t be here today doing what it is that I [...]
146 days, 146 calls for the police
Boulder Shelter for the Homeless has been open for their winter season of emergency sheltering since October 15, 2009 — 146 days through yesterday. Strangely enough, there have been 146 calls for Boulder PD from 4869 N. Broadway (street address of BSH) during that time. Caveat: Some of those calls, I’m advised, involve traffic stops [...]
Annual Reports
See the 2008 (most recent available) Annual Report for Boulder Shelter for the Homeless here:
http://www.bouldershelter.org/about.reports.html
And the 2008 Annual Report for Carriage House here (click on fullscreen):
http://www.bouldercarriagehouse.org/index/2008-annual-report/
To me, what’s really important in both reports is missing and apparently not tracked: How many homeless people from Denver and elsewhere are using services at these Boulder nonprofits?
Resources are [...]
